The rezoning of property that would allow AEP to build a new electricity substation is on the Marfa City Council agenda for Tuesday evening, and after months of hearings and delays on a decision, sources say it’s likely that council members will take a vote Tuesday. (See below for full coverage on the issue.) The council meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Casner Room at City Hall. The full agenda is here.
Meetings on the substation resulted in a rarity in Mara–packed City Council meetings with numerous speakers opposing the plan. (Supporters of the plan, while in the minority, also turned out to speak of the need for the substation.) As an example, recent council budget/tax rate hearings that would raise Marfa property taxes on homesteads 50% this year, only drew one to three speakers at each meeting.
Also on the agenda for Tuesday is an interview of a candidate to fill the vacant city administrator position, and consideration of a K-9 dog–“Roski”–for the Marfa Police Department.
