Marfa Poet Eileen Myles will read from a 1979 poem while also celebrating the publication of what she calls a “new (old)” book at the Marfa Book Company tonight, Tuesday, July 20, at 7 p.m.
“The book is called Birdwatching and it’s a first-time publication of a long (79-page) poem I wrote in 1978 and read once at St. Mark’s Church in 1980,” Myles said. “Also three skinny earlier books are included in the volume. I’ll read some new stuff too. I feel that if I got my wish and died young around 33, this one book (which is black) will be all that there was. So it’s kind of weird and romantic and a nice thing, the object of it.”
The reading will also have LPs Myles made with the publisher, Fonograf, for sale. The book company is located at 300 S Kelly Street.
