PRESIDIO,
established in 1683, may be a lesser-known West Texas border town,
but it boasts its own history and personalities. The town is located at the meeting
of two rivers––the Rio Grande and the Conchos. There is a merging of cultures, as locals frequently cross the Presidio-Ojinaga International Bridge
for family, work, and school.
Since 2013, the Presidio International Dragstrip has been hosting a monthly Saturday evening bracket race. This event has become a positive, lively, multicultural destination where hundreds of enthusiasts and families from both sides of the border gather to compete. The background landscape is gorgeous, with the colorful track nestled in a valley overlooking the mountains of Mexico. Robert Romero, president of Presidio Drag Racing, sums up the automobiles found there: “You wouldn’t think that there are fast and powerful cars here, but we have them.”
